There are two Travel Lodges. If you're in the one on 110 S. El Camino Real, you're right next to BART. If you're in the one on South Airport Blvd., there is a free shuttle to the airport, and you could catch BART there.
2 :
the airport is far from downtown sf, but you can always take the BART train in. find out where the nearest bart station is, and if the hotel offers a shuttle service to it.
3 :
The easiest way is on Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART). There should be a station nearby the airport. Simply take any line heading into the East Bay and get off at Civic Center Station (City Hall, Orpheum Theatre), Powell Station (Westfield Shopping Center, Union Square), Montgomery Station (Financial District), or Embarcadero Station (Ferry Building, Embarcadero Center). Those the the four major SF BART stops. You could find more info about schedules and routes on their website (www.bart.gov) and you could find a easy to navigate trip planner on the San Francisco Municipal Transportation website (www.sfmta.org). That way you don't need to wait for answers and you could plan out your entire trip by public transit! Another thing is if you're not planning to rent a car and planning to spend more than one day in SF I would highly recommend getting a visitor passport for public transportation. This will help you save money and you could ride MUNI all day without worrying about transfers and fares! You could find more info on the visitor passport on the same link as the trip planner. Good luck and have fun!

About Is it good for me to travel to San Francisco by car from LA

Is it good for me to travel to San Francisco by car from LA?

take a bus or train driving in SF is a nightmare!!!

I prefer to travel between SF and LA by car. It's not the quickest form of transportation but it is by far the most convenient and quite often the cheapest. Parking in San Francisco, save for certain areas, isn't as bad as most people make it out to be although there are areas where it's horrible. Driving in San Francisco is easier than LA because there isn't as many people and therefore less traffic. Public transportation, again, except for certain areas and times isn't as convenient as the popular myth suggests. If you intend to leave the city, public transportation becomes almost useless.

travel tips!! How to save you a lot of money, time and frustration on your net trip to San Francisco. The biggest problem you'll have with a car in San Francisco (besides all the one way streets and hills) is trying to find a parking spot- honestly, it's a NIGHTMARE! Jay Gross said it best. "If all the planets are properly aligned, if you're holding your mouth right and if you avoided walking under that ladder, you might, just might, be able to find a parking space in San Francisco". Parking in a public parking lot will run you a $20 to $25 a day. Parking at your hotel will run you $40 to $45 a day and most hotels don't own their parking lots. Plus the street meters are $.25 for 10 minutes and there is no overnight parking on city streets unless you are a permanent resident of San Francisco and have a parking permit sticker. But there is a great alternative! San Francisco has one the best public transportation systems in the United States! Really! There isn't any place in San Francisco that is more than just a few blocks away from one of the many modes of public transportation offered by the city. With that said, if you're going to spend seven days in San Francisco, that means you will spend over $400 on parking a rental car you won't use and don't need. I don't know about you but $400 is a lot of money to me to throw away on parking. With that money I could go to a fine dining restaurant, an off-Broadway theater show, take lots of taxis and still have money left over to enjoy.

Easy yes, two major cities on opposite sides of the country. But the flight too and from not so easy.
2 :
Pretty darn easy. Non-stop flights, choice of carriers.
3 :
Absolutly.Flights leaving on the hour and in between. 7 Major carriers. Bon Voyage
4 :
Flying? Absolutely. Driving or bus? Not so much. Too long.
5 :
If your flying yes its SUPER easy. They have lots of flights leaving SFO - JFK. Non stop. (But its a tad expensive) If your driving or taking greyhound. It will be a LONG ride.
6 :
Flying is indeed super easy since there are a good amount of airlines that fly non-stop to the 3 airports that serve NYC. Other methods just take more time and it is probably not as easy to find that many options due to the time consumption.

I like San Francisco better because there are many fun places to visit like Chinatown, Fisherman's Wharf, and Union Square. Visiting Alcatraz is interesting and riding a cable car is fun. The hilly streets are amazing and the city is beautiful. There is a variety of good restaurants too. The city is loaded with history and fun things to do.

i dont know if you can take a train over the panama canal if u go make sure to not drink the water and wear bug spray
2 :
Not directly. You can travel by train, but you will have to drive or take a bus to the next train area. It would take a great deal of time for you to accomplish this, as the train is not the best mode of transportation to South America.
3 :
I am pretty sure that there is no trains that travel even as far as Guatemala. Some of the other central american countries each have some railroad networks but they are not connected. In any case, they are not widely used for transprotation even in Mexico, busses are faster and more widely used. The railroad networks in central america are largely from the banana growing regions to the ports and are not for passengers. As for bus or car transport the road has a gap between Panama and Columbia about 200 miles south of the canal in a dense swamp/jungle.
4 :
No, you can't, not all countries have trains.
5 :
No. In between Panama and Colombia there's a huge stretch of jungle that blocks traffic. You'd have to take a boat from Panama to Cartagena. and then continue the journey south.

About How long does it take to travel from transby terminal to san francisco airport

How long does it take to travel from transby terminal to san francisco airport?
I'm arriving in San Francisco by greyhound bus, and need to get to the San Francisco International Airport. I am traveling on a Saturday. Does anyone know how much taxi fare would be or the best public transportation route would be? Car rentals are not an option. Thanks!

Transit: Walk to Market Street (2 blocks up Fremont Street) and take the subway. 35 Minutes. Costs $5.15. Taxi: 25-30 Minutes. Costs approx. $40.00 + tip. Given the cost differences, I'd take public transit and save all that money.
2 :
PS the public transit system referred to in the first post is called BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) and you'll know you're above a station when see signs that say "ba" on Market Street. You will have to buy a magnetic striped ticket from the machines which you use to enter and exit the system. Once you get down to the platform you want a train that says San Francisco Airport or Millbrae. The other trains don't go there. Trains only come every 20 minutes on Saturday. Hope this all helps.
3 :
GO TO MARKET STREET AND GET ON THE BART TRAIN... GET ON THE MILLBRAE IT WILL RUN EVERY 20 MIN... ONCE YOU GET ON THE BART IT WILL ONLY TAKE ABOUT 15 TO 20 MIN TO GET THERE... FARE IS ABOUT $5.15

I've taken a taxi from Transbay Terminal to SFO and it costs you between $50 to $75 depending on the route. If you are going to take a taxi, tell the driver to go turn left on 5th street and get on 101 South straight down to South San Francisco - SFO. It will only take less than 15 minutes from the moment you get on the Freeway to SFO. http://yellowcab.com If you are going to take the bus (Samtrans), it will cost you $1.50. The Samtran bus leaves from Transbay Terminal and it is Bus #292 and it goes to SFO. It will take one hour and 15 minutes. http://www.samtrans.com/pdf/Maps/Route_292_6_22_03_MAP.pdf If you are going to take BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit), you can walk one block West to Market Street and take BART from Montgomery BART Station. The BART fare will be $5.15 and it will take 32 minutes. http://www.bart.gov Good luck on your trip. 20 years in SF.
