About do you need a passport to travel from san francisco to san diego

do you need a passport to travel from san francisco to san diego?
I recently renewed my passport and its in the process of renewing and i havent gotten it back yet. i was wondering if i will need it to go to san diego next week from san francisco without it because im afraid they wont mail me the passport back in time. I have a california id card, would that be enough?

Both San Franscisco and San Diego are in the US. As long as you don't plan on crossing the border into Mexico when you are in San Diego, you won't need a passport. No US citizen needs a passport to go from a US city to another US city.

You will only need a passport if you plan on taking the loooooooooooooong way to San Diego, like through Canada or Mexico.... :)

San Fran to SD isnt even crossing state borders. You only need a passport to cross international borders. When flying to different cities in the same state or country...a passport isnt necissary.

as long as you remain within the us you do not need a passport.

Not unless you plan to visit both cities by detouring through a foreign country. Your government issued picture ID (drivers license for example) is just fine for getting onto any public transportation system (plane, train, car rental, bus, etc).
